Maketalena's story

Maketalena is a 47-year-old mother of one son. She is married to a farmer and they lived in their own home. Her son is in the tertiary level.

Maketalena is running a Koka'anga business joining a group of women in her own village. They make tapa in different types and sizes once per week. She has been running this business for more than twenty years now. She is the breadwinner for her family.

For the past few years, Maketalena has struggled to meet the high demands in the markets for her tapas because they are very unique. She tends to decorate the tapas in a very unique styles which attract more customers. She markets her tapas not only in the local market but overseas as well.

Maketalena wishes to have this loans to buy more mulberries so that she can supply more tapas for her buyers. Her dream for her only son to send him overseas for further education with the help of her business earnings.
