A loan helped to buy food products for resale.

01_Awa Thioupame Group's story

Established in the area in May 2013, this "banc villageois" is made up of 6 women who come from the same village and enjoy good family, neighbourly, and supportive relationships. Their main activity is retail. They have repaid 10 loans without difficulty.

69-year-old Awa is the group representative and is standing on the right of the photo raising her hand. She is a widow and the mother of 6 children, two of whom are girls and all of whom are working adults. One is married. Awa sells vegetables and various other food products at the village market. She gets her supplies from the wholesalers and resells to retail customers. She has over 35 years worth of good experience in this line of work.

She plans to buy some bags of cabbages, carrots, cassava, and potatoes, as well as 250 kilos of peanut butter and other food products. She is very good at her job, has a loyal customer base, and is helped by her children.

The profits she makes enable her to build savings with the "banc villageois", to support her children, and to grow her business.
