A loan helped to add employees and grow my small business.
Education has always been important in my family. From an earlier age, I was able to make the connection between education and empowerment. My knowledge and ability to learn empowered me to explore my passions and enhance my talents by educating myself. Education became a daily tool that I used to navigate new spaces and expand my skill set in both my professional and personal life. As an educator (both inside and outside of the classroom), I have observed that many students do not view education in this light. In particular, minority and underrepresented youth often experience a disconnect to their learning environment and curriculum that hinders their learning abilities. Intellectually the US is motived to change that narrative by restructuring the framework in which education and active learning is being presented. We do this by taking the time to learn, understand, and represent our students in their learning environment and curriculum. I established the Intellectually US on the core values of Accessibility, Representation, and Self-Advocacy. Our mission is to address the gap in educational resources for minority groups and underrepresented youth by providing affordable academic resources that incorporate our students’ identity and culture, in addition to using strategic methods to encourage self-advocacy. I believe that by creating a sense of belonging within our student's learning environment they will in turn become active participants in their learning experience and began to benefit from their education. My personal motivation stems from my love for family and community. I truly believe that it takes a village to build up an individual and I am dedicated to creating businesses that can be a part of someone else's village and contribute to their life in a positive way.
