A loan helped to buy farming inputs that a single mom will use to improve her production and make more profits to support her family.

Josephine's story

Josephine is a 62-year-old single mother living in Engineer, a town surrounded by prime agricultural lands that favor large-scale grain farming, dairy, sheep, and crop farming.

She is a farmer who has been farming for the past many years, enabling her to be able to support her family. The Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected her farm production.

She is borrowing this loan to buy farming inputs that she will use to improve her production and to make more profits to support her family.

The major impediment to the development of smallholder farms in Kenya is a lack of short-term credit facilities. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is working hard to support smallholder farmers in Kenya by financing them and therefore guaranteeing their survival.
