Fatoumata Moussa's Group's story
The members of the Benkadi 7 group are married women who average 38 years of age and have an average of four children each; the majority of them live in polygamous families in Comorow, one of the villages in the municipality of Loulouni, which lies in the sub-prefecture of Loulouni, the third administrative region of Mali. They collaborate with the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso, in order to manage successfully their agricultural activities during the winter season. They are on their fourth loan from the institution and the three previous loans were all repaid correctly. Fatoumata Moussa D., the president of the group, cultivates rice. With her loan, she is planning to buy agricultural intrants and small equipment to maintain her half a hectare of land. Once the crop has been harvested, it is sold to a customer base made up of men and women in the village and at the market in Loulouni. She is planning to make an average profit of 25,000 FCFA at the end of the season, which will allow her to reimburse her loan and also to help her family with the daily expenses. She would like to continue this collaboration with Soro Yiriwaso, in order to be able to cultivate a larger area of land and make more money.
