María Cecilia's story

Maria Cecilia and her family live in Portoviejo. The city was struck by an earthquake on April 16, 2016 and now by the COVID-19 pandemic. The city is an important producer of greens, vegetables and tropical fruit for internal consumption.

Maria Cecilia works for a public institution as the director of a school. She works from Monday to Friday. She is also the owner of private school and works there Monday to Friday. It has eight grades from beginning through to 8th grade of basic education. It has two pre-school teachers and 4 teachers. Her students pay a monthly fee. The person in charge of the school is her only son. In her family her son was the only person to get sick with COVID-19 and he has recuperated.

The quarantine at the beginning left her without work out of fear of getting sick and the various restrictions that stopped her going out to work. She is currently working following health protocols.

This loan will be used for the maintenance of her school. Her dream is for the school to grow and for her family to enjoy good health.
