Chunimalense Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a large quantity of high-quality thread.

Chunimalense Group's story

Unable to attend school, 30-year-old Juana has managed to help support her family by weaving traditional blouses/”huipiles” and skirts/”cortes” and caring for her flock of chickens. She began this second business 12 years ago. Her husband is a farmer caring for peach and apple trees. The couple has five children who range in age from 8 mos. to 9 years of age. The older two are in the first and second grades. With a Kiva loan, Juana will be able to buy a large quantity of high-quality thread.

Juana has joined six other Maya “K'iche” women and formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Chunimalense” in the department/state of Quiche. These women weave traditional textiles and raise chickens. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they offer each other support, make loan payments, and participate in educational training in health, women, family, business. These training sessions are crucial to their success because they have little or no formal education.

Every two months, they have access to basic health care services. They really appreciate the visit by a traveling nurse who offers consults, exams, and services. This is especially important in Guatemala since the healthcare system is stretched very thinly and often non-existent.

(The children in the photograph have the authorization of the borrowers that make up the group.)

Thank you, Kiva investors, for your kindness in funding these much appreciated loans!
