A loan helped to invest in a bulk purchase of alpaca yarn.

Maria's story

Maria is an artisan from Peru who specializes in handcrafted Andean alpaca apparel and accessories. She would like to invest in a bulk purchase of alpaca yarn. Maria has been selling through NOVICA since 2015. This is her story:

"As a girl, I was interested in the handwoven blankets and sashes that my mother created. The main thing that attracted me was to carry our ancestors' traditions and transmit our history through our colors and motifs. My inspiration comes from our history of Inca weavings, which is one of the oldest textile traditions of the Andes and was one of the most highly developed. Inca art shows an extraordinary sense of symmetry, which is reflected in the neatly organized figures."

"Currently the economic and political situation in my country is somewhat complicated, causing speculation in prices. The dollar has risen a lot, and the yarn suppliers give preference to large textile companies that can pay them in advance. Also, for the type of fabric that I develop the cost of labor in my workshop is higher. That is why I come to you to ask you to kindly support me with a credit to finance the production of my items."
