"Can Do" Female Farmers Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for improved seed, organic inputs, and tractor rental, which will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area with a higher yield.

"Can Do" Female Farmers Group's story

Fatu K (1st on left), the featured borrower of "Can Do" Female Farmers Group, would like to sincerely thank all the Kiva lenders for their first loan. It enabled the group's members to break free from the local lenders who were charging them nearly 100% interest, and as a result all group members have fully recovered their businesses, have repaid their first loan and are successfully farming again.

The group is now seeking a second loan to expand further. The global COVID-19 pandemic is causing food shortages in some areas of Sierra Leone, as imported rice becomes more scarce. A second Kiva loan will not only further empower these women, it will enable them to take advantage of the current market for rice and enhance food access in Sierra Leone at a time when this is badly needed.

The profits will be used to create a support fund for young female farmers in the community, which the group will help mentor.
