Women's Peace Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for improved seeds, organic inputs, and a tractor rental that will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area with a higher yield.

Women's Peace Group's story

Umu B (first on the left), the featured borrower of Women's Peace Group, would like to sincerely thank all the Kiva lenders for their first loan. It enabled the group's members to break free from the local lenders who were charging them nearly 100% interest. As a result, all group members have fully recovered their businesses, repaid their first loan and are successfully farming again. The group is now seeking a second loan to expand further.

The global COVID-19 pandemic is causing food shortages in some areas of Sierra Leone, as imported rice becomes more scarce. A second Kiva loan will not only further empower these women, but it will enable them to profit from the current market for rice and enhance food access in Sierra Leone at a time when this is badly needed. The profits will be used to ensure all members' children go to school, and will also be used by the group to create a support fund for young female farmers.
