A loan helped a passionate tour guide buy his first excursion van to transport tourists.
I am a tour guide and adventure guide on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. I grew up in a neighborhood close to the historical city of Old San Juan. As a kid, I developed an interest in history because I constantly visited this 500-year-old Spanish colonial city with the Boy Scouts. Similarly, since my grandparents are from the mountainous countryside of the island I also fell in love with nature while visiting their farm. Following my interests, I started working as an adventure guide in a ziplining tour company when I was 17 years old. Later I started doing city tours of the historical city. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Geography and afterward a Master's in Tourism Destination Management. Now I am 32 years old. Being a tour guide is my life passion. From directing a rappel down a waterfall to showing the historical walls of the Old San Juan, these are the things that make me happy. For more than 13 years I have worked for many different tour companies. Now I want to expand my services by providing tourists and locals with great nature, adventure, and cultural experiences. I seek to buy an excursion van that will enable me to transport visitors to off-the-beaten-path attractions. I really enjoy the opportunity of being able to interact with people from all around the world and show them my country. When I am giving a tour I have the responsibility of interpreting to visitors our historical and natural heritage in an accurate and safe way. I feel like an ambassador of Puerto Rico. Once the company acquires the van, it will be able to hire other guides, thus providing youths with employment opportunities. Also, the company will hire local cooks to prepare meals for our clients.
