A loan helped to earn an income in the animal husbandry business.

Las Flores De Paxan Group's story

Many of the women who participate in the "Microcredit Plus" program of Puente de Amistad for young people began to carry out various trades that later became profitable businesses.

This is how Catarina, 40, has lived it. She is married and the mother of six children 8 to 18 years old. She was not educated and knows that education is important to get ahead in life. For this reason, she and her husband have been able to sacrifice to give a primary education to all their children.

A few years ago, Catarina saw an opportunity to earn an income in the animal husbandry business. The business is growing, and she needs a loan to increase her capital. She requests a fourth Kiva loan to buy one cow, some pigs and cloth to continue sewing.

There are 10 women in the Community Bank of Puente de Amistad “Las Flores de Paxan” who did not attend school. They are of the K'iche 'Mayan ethnic group and live in a rural area of the Department (state) of Totonicapán. It is to be admired that these women advance thanks to the small businesses of raising animals, making clothes and stores of daily consumption. They are also benefited by the monthly trainings, where they learn about business, health, and family. The topics on investment and budgeting support making their business successful. In addition, every two months, women can perform various examinations to find out how their health is. This is very good!

Thanks for your input, Kiva lenders!
