Margaritas El Tejar Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy chicken, vegetables and a freezer.

Margaritas El Tejar Group's story

The majority of widows, like 34-year-old Geidy, need more than one source of income to support themselves and their families. Along with her 13-year-old son, Geidy lives with her parents in a rural area in the department/state of Chimaltenango. She sells pieces of chicken and vegetables daily because she never knows when her customers will need to buy her food items. This is why she is requesting her 1st Kiva loan to buy chicken, vegetables and a freezer for the chicken. It will be quite useful for her.

Geidy has joined 6 other women to participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. The ladies in the group have elected her to be President! She welcomes them to the monthly meetings and emphasizes the importance of being punctual and supportive of each other. The educational trainings are of great value to them and cover an aspect of 4 topics: business, health, family, and women.

The business management tools that they learn about help them with their businesses selling vegetables, chicken, tortillas and regional dishes. Others are seamstresses. Recent topics were about the dangers of over-indebtedness, about not sharing names/personal information, and about saving for an emergency. Every 2 months, they have access to basic health care services.

Geidy and her friends send their gratitude to Kiva investors from all parts of the world for learning about them and funding their loans!!!
