Alice's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy quality fertilizer for her banana crop farm.

Alice's story

Alice, a 33-year-old single mother of three school going children wakes up at 4 a.m. every day to tend to her farm. Alice lives in Kenyenya, a remote area where banana farming is one of the main economic activities.

Alice practices animal, dairy, and banana crop farming. Waste from her animals is usually composted and used to increase the soil fertility of her farm. Thanks to her perseverance, her children can have at least one meal a day.

Unlike most microfinance loan institutions in Kenya, which have imposed very complicated procedures for loan acquisition, thereby discouraging smallholder farmers, Juhudi Kilimo is working closely with Kiva to make loan acquisition for smallholder farmers easy and convenient. Through this intervention, movement of funds in the rural communities has increased, thereby alleviating rural poverty.

The Kenyenya area, where Alice farms, has favorable conditions for banana crop farming, which is why Alice is seeking a loan to buy quality fertilizer for her banana crop.

Alice is very thankful in advance for your help and contributions. She is looking forward to your warm response.
