Mujers Virtuosas Palmenses Group's story

Many women who are clients of Puente de Amistad learned in their childhood from their parents to be merchants and over time establish their own businesses to provide income for their own family. This is how Angela, 44, shares it. “Since I was little I helped my parents with the business. For this reason I only attended school for 5 years. I liked being a businesswoman and now I successfully manage a sale of products for personal use, clothes and shoes classified by catalog”. She is a married woman and mother of 4 children over the age of 21 who completed high school. Angela applies for the 1st loan from Kiva to buy a large quantity of personal use and cleaning products on sale.

The 7 women in the Puente de Amistad Community Bank "Mujeres Virtuosas Palmenses" live in a warm area of the department / state of Quetzaltenango. They are determined to support their families and thanks to the income from their businesses (sale from food and products by catalog) they are succeeding. Angela is the president of the communal bank. She calls monthly meetings so that her companions make the payments on her loans. Later, they also participate in educational training, which is a part of the "Microcredito Plus" loan, education and health services program. They learn about planning, budgeting, investing and saving, health, hygiene, and nutrition.

Kiva's lenders, by partnering with Friendship Bridge, help women build their businesses, earn income, educate their children, and empower themselves. Thanks!
