Oliviene's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped me get the equipment and inventory to sell my authentic Jamaican cuisine at summer festivals.

Oliviene's story

When I was growing up in Jamaica, my mother baked loaves of bread, buns, and cakes out of her own bakery. I never saw her work for anyone but herself and I loved working with her. That's where I got the start of doing my own cooking and my desire to own my own business. Now that I am in America, it is my desire to do the same as I saw my mother do. I have a lot of experience cooking. After I left high school, I went to Kelly Lawson Trade School for home economics. I worked for Trelawny Beach Hotel in Jamaica for 8 years. I was cooking until I got promoted to supervisor. In Jamaica, sometimes I would set up a tent and cook right on the street with a wood or coal fire. I'd make jerk chicken, curry chicken, fried fish, fried plantain, rice and beans, and cabbage and carrots. The tourists coming off of ships would buy from us, which is how I knew that Americans would love my food.
