Azucenas De San Jose Yalu Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy seeds, fertilizer, and insecticide.

Azucenas De San Jose Yalu Group's story

Twenty-four-year-old Edna is married and has a 3-year-old daughter. She and her husband are farmers who grow corn, chiles, peas, and tomatoes. Edna also raises and sells pigs and cows. She wants to have her business grow and prosper, so she is requesting a second Kiva loan to buy seeds, fertilizer, and insecticide.

Edna has a sixth-grade education and was elected president by the 10 other Kakchikel-speaking members of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank Azucenas de San Jose Yalu group, located in the department of Sacatepéquez. She calls the group monthly to make payments on their business loans (selling food; weaving traditional blouses; or farming corn, chiles, tomatoes, and peas). After the paymentsm, they engage with a facilitator in educational sessions that are relevant to their businesses, family planning or themselves, like developing self-esteem and becoming empowered. These sessions are part of the Microcredit Plus program of loans, education, and healthcare services, which are provided on a bimonthly basis by a visiting nurse. The services include family-planning consults and blood-sugar/blood-pressure checks.

Kiva investors, your generous loan support for these ladies will make it possible for them to look forward to a brighter future. Thank you!
