A loan helped to buy more inventory for her store!

Chicabal Group's story

There are 22 distinct Maya languages in Guatemala and 56 year old Victoriana speaks one of them - Mam. She is a single mother of 7 children who range in age from 7-year-old to adults. Without a formal education, she is very proud that her 7-year-old is in the 1st grade and that the older ones finished primary school. Victoriana has a convenience store and raises chickens. She wants to refill her shelves and buy more food products. So, she is asking for a 4th KIVA loan and has high expectations for increased sales and income.

Victoriana, along with 7 other women, is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Chicabal" located in the Department of Quetzaltenango. As a part of the "Microcredit Plus" program of loans, educational trainings and health care services, the women meet monthly to make loan payments and then participate in an important educational trainings learning how to budget, save or invest in their businesses. The ladies appreciate the sessions that have helped them become more productive in their respective businesses such as convenience store, selling chicken by the pound, vegetables, or raising chickens and grinding corn. Bimonthly, they can receive basic health care services like family planning consultations, and blood sugar/blood pressure checks.

Victoriana and her friends are very grateful for the generous loan support from KIVA investors! Thank you to each one of you!
