A loan helped to purchase ingredients for her bakery and a new mixer.

Las Virtudes Group's story

“La Dulce Vida,” or “The Sweet Life,” by Alejandra is the perfect description for her dream come true. Even though baking was her passion, before Alejandra received micro-loans from Diaconía, she worked as a beautician to make ends meet. With access to initial capital, she opened her very own bakery and continues to use her loans to purchase quality materials and ingredients for her culinary creations. With the income from her bakery, Alejandra, a single mom, can pay for her son to go to college and become a professional. He is studying biology in the national university in Paraguay.

Alejandra dreams of her small business becoming a coffee and bake shop that can be a source of work for other women. She is grateful for the push and support she received from Diaconía to start and maintain her business, giving her the gift of financial stability so that she can enjoy the sweetness of life.

Due to strict social gathering restrictions in Paraguay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Alejandra's group cannot meet regularly so she is the only one who appears in their group profile photo.
