Los Girasoles Malacatan Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more chickens and containers to store food.

Los Girasoles Malacatan Group's story

Glendy is the proud 31 year old married mother of 10 year old twin girls who are in the 4th grade.

Her husband works as a mechanic.

She raises chickens that she sells live and butchered and walks throughout neighborhoods in her community in San Marcos Sacatepequez to sell both. Glendy was fortunate to have a 9th grade education. After planning carefully, Glendy has decided to enlarge both businesses and is requesting her 1st KIVA loan. She will buy more chickens to fatten up and sell, as well as additional containers.

Along with 8 other ladies, Glendy participates in the Friendship Bridge Microcredit Plus program of loans, educational training and health care services.

Their Trust Bank is called Los Girasoles Malacatan Group (Girasoles are sunflowers!). At their monthly meetings, a Facilitator shares relevant information with them drawn from 4 areas (health, family, women, business). The facilitator uses pictures, diagrams, games and role playing to share the information that the ladies often share with family and friends.

The new business information can be applied immediately to their prepared food businesses, and sales of clothing, shoes, containers, and catalogue products. And like Glendy, they can use it in their animal husbandry businesses.

Glendy and her friends send their gratitude to Kiva investors for funding their much needed loans! Thank you to each of you!
