Las Guadalupanas Ii Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped Elena, to purchase another sewing machine to increase business and income.

Las Guadalupanas Ii Group's story

Elena is 35 years old, separated, and has 2 daughters (12 &13) who are in the 4 and 5th grades. She opened her tortilla shop or “tortilleria” 7 years ago. She is also a seamstress and her daughters help her sew beautiful clothing!

Although Elena has only 1 year of formal education, she is very astute in business. She has planned carefully and is asking for a 2nd Kiva loan to purchase another sewing machine. Her goals are to increase her business and income to continue to cover household expenses and the educational costs of sending her daughters to school.

Elena belongs to the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Las Guadalupanas II" located in the Department of Quiché. The 6 other women in the group speak the Maya language of K'iche and have businesses selling regional sweets, tortillas, traditional beautifully embroidered blouses/"huipiles", woven wrap-around skirts/"cortes", or raising chickens. They meet monthly to make loan payments and to participate in the "Microcredit Plus" program of small loans, educational training, and health care services. Bimonthly, they have the opportunity to visit with a nurse who provides basic health care services like family planning consults and blood sugar/blood pressure checks.

You, very gracious Kiva investors, play an important role in the future successes of Elena and her friends, by providing the much needed funding for their small loans. Many thanks to each of you!!!
