A loan helped to purchase clothing, such as shirts and dresses, for ladies and gents.

Violet's story

Violet is 33 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are currently in school. For the past five years, Violet has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes.

To help expand her business, Violet has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase clothing, such as shirts and dresses, for ladies and gents. This will help Violet to generate greater profits and to pay some of the rent bills for the shop, food, and basic needs for the family. Violet hopes that, in the future, she will be able to acquire a piece of land and start building a house of her own.

Violet is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Violet who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
