A loan helped to buy farm inputs so that she can improve her horticultural business that was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Janet's story

Janet is 31 years old and has three children under her care. She is a woman who has always adapted to the struggles in life because she wants the best for her family. Janet has been a mixed dairy and crop farmer for the past 10 years. Through farming, she has been able to move her family ahead.

Janet is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs so that she can improve her horticultural business that was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The major impediment to the development of smallholder farms in Kenya is the lack of short-term credit facilities. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is working hard to support smallholder farmers in Kenya by offering them loans that help to guarantee their survival. Janet is hopeful that as the world struggles to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, Kiva lenders will be inspired to support her loan.
