Estrellas De Xecaguic Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy chickens and a cow.

Estrellas De Xecaguic Group's story

Santos, a married mother of two children, lives in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. Her husband is a day laborer but doesn’t earn very much so Santos decided to open an animal husbandry business. She raises chickens and cattle and sells them from her home. After planning carefully, Santos decided to expand the business and that is why she is requesting her second Kiva loan. She will use it to buy additional chickens and a cow.

Along with five other Maya K’iche women, Santos is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Estrellas de Checaguic”. They have no formal education and are proud of their businesses: raising chickens and cattle and fabricating/selling traditional textiles. The ladies look forward to their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational trainings, a critical component of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Topics like health, nutrition, hygiene and health are very useful as are effective business management tools like budgeting and investing. Every two months, a visiting nurse, who speaks their Maya K’iche language, offers all kinds of basic exams and services. This is very important because the Guatemalan health care system is always stretched thin and most do not have access to it at all.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for your generosity with Santos and her friends!
