Aminata's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! Aminata is a 42-year-old client from the Waterloo branch. She is married and has two children, ages 12 and 22, both of whom are in school. Aminata started her business so that she could support herself and her family.

She has a retail business in which she sells palm oil, oil, ground nuts, sugar, mangoes, bananas, Maggi seasonings, onions, salt, and other products to customers in her community. Aminata has been in this business for 15 years. Her other source of income is derived from her husband’s work as a mechanic. Aminata main challenge is dealing with occasional slow sales.

She requested a loan from BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more palm oil, oil, ground nuts, sugar, mangoes, bananas, Maggi seasonings, onions, salt, and other assorted items to increase her business. Aminata says that the extra income that results from this loan will be used to improve her business and take care of her family’s needs. In the future, she would like to expand her business and have a shop of her own.

Aminata expresses her thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.
