M. Nodira is 36 years old. She is married with two children. Nodira is running her own business to help her husband to support the family. She is selling jewellery. Nodira has been in this business for more than 12 years. Today Nodira requests 7500 Somoni to purchase new items of jewelry like earrings, rings, bracelets, and chains in order to increase the range of goods she sells. This is the eleventh loan Nodira has taken out and she promises to observe all the procedures concerning the payment of the loan as she has done with previous loans. These conditions have resulted in high levels of unemployment and have forced hundreds of thousands to seek work in other countries, mainly Russia. While the people of Tajikistan are working to improve its agricultural production and manufacturing sector, nearly two-thirds of the population still live in abject poverty.
