Umelia Bacilica's story

Umelia Bacilica is 58 years old. She is married and has 5 adult children. Her spouse was a professor and is now retired. They live in their own house.

They live in Montecristi. This town stands out for its handicrafts made of straw, wicker, piquigua [the fiber of the eponymous tropical rain forest plant], and wood, including fine toquilla straw hats that are recognized throughout the world as "Panama hats".

Umelia Bacilica is a master sewer and has a small sewing shop where she receives her customers. They ask her for a wide variety of clothes for women and children. She works from Monday to Saturday. She sometimes also works on Sundays when she has to deliver some clothes. She also goes sewing in other shops and they pay her daily.

One of her daughters got sick with COVID-19, but she has now recovered. At the beginning she had to stop working because of social distancing and of the fear of infection. She also couldn't go out to sell because of several restrictions. Now, she is complying with the bio safety protocols.

She will use this loan to buy fabric, thread, locks, to pay bills, etc. Her dream is that her business go back to its previous workload and that her family remain healthy.
