Maria Isabel's story

Maria Isabel and her family live in Portoviejo, a city affected by the earthquake of April 16, 2016 and now by the COVID-19 pandemic. The city is rich in the production of vegetables, legumes, and tropical fruits for domestic consumption.

Maria Isabel works organizing events like quinceañeras [15th birthdays], baptisms, first communions, weddings, etc. During this global pandemic, her event contracts have dropped, so she is currently working making and selling a variety of food such as breakfasts with dumplings with cheese, pork rinds, mixtos, chicken sandwiches, lunches, and snacks with home deliveries, and personalized birthday decorations. She works every day.

At first the social distancing had her without work due to the fear of the disease and various restrictions which prevented her from going out to organize the events. But, currently she is making food with the biosafety protocols and home deliveries.

This loan is to purchase beef, pork, chicken, fish, plantains, cheese, pork rinds, disposable containers, etc. Her dreams are to have her own retail space for preparations and that her customers serve themselves with her delicious food, and that her child becomes a professional.
