Las Estrellas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy feed, vaccinations, and building supplies to enlarge her corrals.

Las Estrellas Group's story

Bertilia is a 41-year-old married woman with six children who range in age from 2-20. Five of them attend school, while the youngest is still at home. Her oldest child has a third grade education and is now married. Bertilia raises chickens, sheep, pigs, and a cow. She would like to have a Kiva loan to buy feed for them, vaccinations, and construction materials to enlarge the pens and corrals.

The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Estrellas” or “The Stars” was formed by Bertilia and six other ladies. She is the president of the group.

The ladies raise animals, cultivate basic grains, and have food carts where they cook delicious chicken and fried potatoes. They actively participate in the educational training sessions of their monthly meetings. These educational sessions about healthy habits, good nutrition, and hygiene, as well as business management practices, are vital to their success and a critical component of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and health care services.

As the health care system in Guatemala is very poor, Bertilia and her friends benefit greatly when a visiting nurse comes every other month. She offers them basic services, exams, and consults.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for lending a helping hand to Bertilia and her friends. They are poised to step into a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families, and their community!
