A loan helped to purchase silk thread, dye colors, and materials for weaving silk cloth to sell.

Saipin's story

Saipin is a married woman living with her husband and child in a Khmer community of Surin province, the north-eastern region of Thailand. Her family basically makes a living by planting rice, raising cattle and weaving silk cloth for sale.

Saipin successfully learned to weave silk cloth from her mother when she was young and this occupation is capable to generate income sufficient to cover the spending in her family. She typically sells the products through both online and offline channels.

Using silk products is trendy and prevalent in her area, so she has seen an opportunity to expand the business and then applied for a Kiva loan to buy silk thread, dye color, and materials for weaving silk cloth.

The loan will help her to increase her income and it will support a local woman entrepreneur to create more jobs.
