A loan helped to purchase silk thread, dye colors, and materials for weaving and selling silk cloth.

Chai's story

Chai is a married woman living with her husband and sons in a rural area of Surin province, the northeastern region of Thailand. Her family generally cultivates a rice farm and weaves silk cloth for sale.

Chai was inspired to weave silk cloth from her mother and learned from her mother when she was young. She is very skillful in designing the product. Importantly, the occupation is capable of increasing her income sufficiently for spending on her family. Therefore, she has looked for an opportunity to expand the business and applied for the Kiva loan to buy silk thread, dye colors, and materials for weaving and selling silk cloth.

The loan will encourage her to increase her income and create more jobs. In the future, she desires to sustain the occupation and own a small shop selling silk products as well.
