Janet's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more groceries to expand her business.

Janet's story

Janet is a 28-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her parents, siblings, and child in Phalombe district in Malawi. She sells maize, rice, and other groceries. Janet used her first Kiva loan to buy groceries for her shop and used her profits to support her family and students in need. She is requesting a second Kiva loan to purchase more groceries to expand her business. Janet plans to use the profit she earns to provide food for her family, pay her brother’s school fees, and participate in philanthropic work. She will repay the ‘social interest’ on her loan by volunteering 4 hours per week as a Camfed Learner Guide, following up on students who are at risk of dropping out of school, finding out why they are missing school and linking them with the help they need to stay in school. Janet is also a Camfed Transition Guide, delivering an orientation course to young women who have recently completed secondary school to help them transition into a secure adulthood.
