Melanie Woi's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase baking ingredients for making bread and donuts, as well as construction materials for completing her house.

Melanie Woi's story

Melanie Woi lives in a rural district that is about a 15-minute drive from the city of Port Vila. Her community is small and the main industries are agriculture and fishing. The Ni-Vanuatu people rely heavily on local food products, so earning an income in this sector can be very good. Melanie Woi is 25 years of age and a mother of three children (ages 9, 6, and 2). She is happily married to a zookeeper. They live in a thatched house that they own.

Melanie Woi requested a loan to purchase baking ingredients for producing bread and donuts that she can sell to her valuable customers. She will also buy construction materials for building an addition to her unfinished house. With the revenue she earns, Melanie Woi will be able to complete her unfinished home and pay her children’s school fees. She learned to bake at a young age by working with her father. Melanie Woi has now been in business for over a year. She dreams of having a storefront where she can sell to locals and visitors who pass by.

This is her third loan with SPBD-Vanuatu. Melanie Woi has been faithful with her previous loan payments. With the loans, she feels empowered to grow her business and improve her family’s living conditions.
