A loan helped to pay for a bag of Kava to stock to produce Kava juice and increase her income.

Tourongo's story

Tourongo is the 43-year-old mother of four children aged 18, 16, 10 and 9. She is married to gardener who has been the backbone to her business. Tourongo lives in a village which is located 13 kilometres away from the city of Port Vila.

Her community is small, and the main industry is agriculture. Local food products help local people maintain a healthy lifestyle, Vanuatu-WHO emphasizes the importance of a healthy population that enjoys a high quality of physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being. The ability to earn an income through the agriculture industry has been quite good.

Tourongo has requested a loan to help her pay for a bag of kava from her relatives in Malekula island which is 181 kilometres away from Port Vila. The kilos of kava will be processed into kava juice to provide to her customers.

With the revenue earned, she will pay for her children's school fees so they can have a good education and get a well-paid job in the future.

Tourongo has employed her brother to help in her business. She has now been in her business for over 2 years. This is her fourth loan with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. She has faithfully repaid her previous loans on time.

As her business grows, Tourongo believes her business can expand and continue to support her family's living conditions.
