Las Princesas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy two wooden floor looms and tools for them.

Las Princesas Group's story

Maria, the 30-year-old married mother of 2 children (ages 5 and10) is a very busy woman! She is pregnant with her 3rd child while helping cover the education of her older child who is in the 4th grade.

She has several employees for her textile and fruit businesses. Her husband is a municipal employee. Maria, along with 5 employees, weaves traditional wrap-around skirts called “cortes” and is able to deliver 2 dozen “cortes” twice weekly to the huge market in Chichicastenango. During the fruit season, Maria employs 2 people to help with the plum, apple, avocado, and peach orchards. With her 2nd Kiva loan, Maria would be able to buy 2 wooden floor looms and accompanying tools.

Maria, along with 7 other Maya K’iche ladies, is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Princesas” in the department/state of Quiche. The women are farmers and weavers and raise chickens and turkeys. They acquire basic business management tools during the educational training sessions of their monthly meetings. They also learn about an aspect of 3 other topics: health, family matters, and women’s issues. A facilitator designs these trainings using games, role playing, pictures, and diagrams to share the information. Every 2 months they have access to basic health care services and exams.

Thank you to each Kiva investor for lending a helping hand to Maria and her friends. They are poised to step into a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families, and their community!
