A loan helped to buy ingredients for her recipes and ice cream.

Emprendedoras Lantana Group's story

Silvia is a 40 years old married mother of 3 children who are now over 18 years of age. The older ones finished high school and the younger one still studies.

Three years ago, she began her food business preparing regional dishes, as well as delicious ice cream made of fruit and chocolate. Some of her income continues to support the educational expenses of her son. With this 1st KIVA loan, Silvia will be able to buy ingredients for her regional dishes and fruit, sugar, as well as chocolate for her mouth-watering ice creams!

Silvia is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Emprendedoras Lantana" in the department/state of Guatemala. They sell products via catalogue sales, manage small convenience stores and have prepared food businesses.

Their monthly meetings include relevant educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care. Topics like health, nutrition, hygiene and the importance of taking precautions during the pandemic are covered. Also, the ladies benefit learning about effective business management practices.

Every 2 months, a nurse comes to their community and offers basic services and exams. The nurse is especially sensitive to these women who may be mis-trustful of the health care process.

KIVA investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are a huge help to Silvia and her friends in the Trust Bank. Thank you to each of you for your kindness and your generosity!
