Melanie's story

Melanie, aged 27, is the mother of a daughter who is four years old and attends kindergarten. Melanie is currently pregnant with her second child. She is married and her husband is a bus driver who supports her in her business. Melanie and her family currently live with her elder sister in an urban district which is five minutes drive to Port Vila city. Her community is the largest residential area in the city, and the main industry is food. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been satisfactory for her to earn her income.

Melanie has requested a loan to help her purchase plain fabric, fabric paints and sewing materials. She will increase her stocks so she can meet her customers' orders. She wants to increase her product quantity to increase her revenue. She can then save up so she can purchase a piece of land and build her family their dream home.

Melanie's customers are mostly from the islands of Tanna and Malekula: she has relatives who own shops in which she can sell her products. She also makes earrings and feather hair clips to earn extra income. This is Melanie's second loan with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. She has been diligent with her first loan's repayments.

Melanie is motivated to expand her business and become a successful businesswoman.
