A loan helped to pay for plowing fees and labor costs, and to purchase fertilizers to care for her crops.

Sreynich's story

Sreynich, age 20, is married and has one child who's attending school. She lives with her family in the area of Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province. She earns a living by planting and harvesting rice crops and other agriculture produce and selling her harvest to the local markets.

Agriculture remains the most important sector of the Cambodian economy in terms of its share of the gross domestic product (GDP), and it employs the vast majority of the workforce. With her best effort, she can earn approximately $5 USD per day to pay for daily meals, clothes, medicine and for her child's education fees. Her husband helps to earn additional income by working as paid laborer.

However, the way she does farming is still based on the traditional method. Due to the rainy season, she has a lot of farm work to complete and also needs additional capital to pay for her operating expenses. To help her in the business, she would like to borrow some funds from Kiva lenders to pay for plowing fees and labor costs, and to purchase fertilizers to care for her crops. With this loan support, she will have agriculture products for collecting in this harvesting season and can sell to the local market. She sends thanks to all lenders for supporting her family.
