Rodeo Agriculturist Community Association's story

Walking on a sunny afternoon, following the Patuca River delta, we find beautiful plantain and pomegranate plantations that provide the community of EL Rodeo a means of employment and sustenance for their families. This community has been able to thrive by organizing themselves back in 2008 when they decided to found an association aiming at financial literacy, inclusion, and technical assistance.

The Rodeo Agriculturist Community Association, founded by Santos and Mercedes who were married for 35 years, has become a beacon of hope and opportunity for the Rodeo community. It has been through this association that they were able to overcome a major coffee plant disease known as coffee leaf rust that rendered their plantations fruitless by coming together and deciding to dust off and diversify.

The community diversified into plantains and pomegranate, where they have been successful and seen the possibilities for their community. This time, they have come to Kiva to request funds to purchase more nursery plants, fertilizer, and equipment in order to provide members of the association with the resources to plant and prepare for this coming season.
