Cocaporl Coffee Farmers Cooperative's story

Meet Cocaporl Coffee Farmers Cooperative!

Located in rural Honduras, and founded in 2015, it started as an initiative by its founders to provide working capital to the coffee farmers of the under-resourced community of El Porvenir, in the mountainous region of Honduras. Today the cooperative has 20 members and has supported many hard-working families to make a living by farming coffee.

Although the majority of members only had the chance of attending primary school, they are eager to learn and grow. The cooperative beyond providing working capital for tools and seeds, became like an extended family for the members, that support each other during crises like the hurricanes season during 2020 and the global pandemic.

Today, the Cocaporl Coffee Farmers Cooperative is asking for their very first Kiva loan to buy supplies for coffee farming, hire temporary workers during the plating season and prepare the crops for an expansion. This will support the 20 families members of this cooperative that dedicate to coffee farming and boost their recovery after a very hard 2020.
