Mujeres Activas Xenacoj Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy corn, meat, and serving utensils in bulk.

Mujeres Activas Xenacoj Group's story

Many of the women who participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program with Friendship Bridge have more than one business. This is true for Flor, a 35-year-old married woman who graduated with a high school diploma. She was unable to find work, so she became innovative and opened two businesses. Flor says, “I seized an opportunity to open a catering business so that I could serve my delicious recipes for wedding, birthdays, and quinceañeras. I also have another business of selling personal care products from catalogs. Part of my income goes to covering educational expenses for my children.” Flor is requesting her fifth Kiva loan to buy corn, meat, and serving utensils in bulk.

She is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Activas Xenacoj” in the State of Sacatepequez. These women need to invest in their food and traditional textile businesses. In addition to obtaining loans, they participate in monthly educational seminars that are part of the “Microcredit Plus” program that also includes education and health care services. Topics range from effective business management practices (planning, budgeting, and savings), women’s issues (self-esteem and empowerment), health, nutrition, and hygiene. Every two months, the women have access to basic health care services.

Flor and her fellow group members send their gratitude to the Kiva lenders!
