Staple Grains Farmers In Regadillos Group's story
Meet this cheerful group of farmers from the central part of Honduras. These hardworking men have been working their lands for over three generations! They work cooperatively and help each other beyond the planting season. They harvest, clean, transport, and sell their products together knowing that strength relies on numbers, they have been able to see the benefits of their collaboration. Edilfonzo, first on the left, is a cheerful, hardworking grandfather of 7. His oldest grandchild helps out with the planting as it has become the sustenance of the family economy. His family grows sorghum, potatoes, and carrots. He will benefit from the loan to increase his production for this season and purchase new farming tools. Edilfonzo and the other member are seeking their first Kiva loan to purchase fertilizer and tools in order to properly prepare their land for this season. Sustainable farming has as been a priority for these farmers for the past 12 years, as is the use of organic fertilizers. Their staple grains are corn, beans, sorghum, and potatoes that feed many families from neighboring communities and have also been sold in supermarkets recently, thanks to their organic and sustainable farming practices. Your help and support will provide them with the opportunity of a fruitful harvest and provide for their families. In the photo, from left to right we have Edilfonzo, Jose Joel, Teodoro, Victor, and Nelson.
