Huruma Group's story

Mariamu is a client of the Hekima microfinance institution and head of the village group « Huruma». She is married, aged 41 years and mother of 11 children, 7 of whom attend school and 4 who are already adults. Her partner is a driver.

She sells food items and started this business 17 years ago with the start up funds received from her husband. Later she joined the Hekima prorgramme to support her business, and during this time she evolved progressively.

With this new loan, she will purchase stocks of soya, corn, and beans to strengthen her initial capital. The challenge facing her activity is linked to police pressure and many state taxes.

She would like for her children to continue to study and to be able to feed her family. Finally, she wishes to thank Hekima and its partners for the support they bring to business owners who do not have cash flow in the context of this global crisis linked to covid-19.

The photo only features the leader of the group because of the restrictions due to covid-19 in order to respect the rules of social distancing.
