El Mesias De Chuguexa Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a large quantity of thread.

El Mesias De Chuguexa Group's story

Many of the women participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services, as children watch their parents manage their businesses. When they grow up, they have a sense of what it takes to run their own businesses. This is what transpired with 37-year-old Candelaria, the married mother of a 10-year-old son.

She shares, “As a child, I watched and learned from my mother and other women as they sat at their looms weaving traditional textiles. These woven fabrics were transformed into traditional blouses that were sold in various markets. I watched, learned and only was able to go to school for one year. I like to be an entrepreneur with my own traditional textile business and it is successful!!”

Candelaria has seven employees who can fabricate one traditional blouse or “huipil” each month. The work is very labor intensive. She needs her first Kiva loan to buy a large quantity of thread.

Candelaria is one of seven Maya K’iche ladies in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “El Mesias de Chuguexa”. They live in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. She is the President of the group and calls the monthly meetings to order. Monthly educational training in health, women, family, and business are always part of their meetings and essential to their success. Every two months, the women have access to basic health care services.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for the vital role that you play in the lives of Candelaria and her friends.
