Sector Maza Group's story

The three women in the group Sector Maza live in Canton Mazá, Santo Tomás La Unión, Suchitepéquez, Guatemala. All are married with three or four children. One went through high school, one to fourth grade and one never went to school. They all speak Spanish and the Mayan language Quiche. All three wear traditional clothing. One sells silver jewelry, one makes and sells tamales and the other makes and sells tortillas. They are starting their first cycle with the Namaste Creating Prosperity Program and hope that the financial literacy classes and advice from the personal business advisor will help them to better manage their businesses and to earn more money.

Maria Cecilia is 26, married with three young children. She completed high school and for three years has had a business buying and selling silver jewelry. She has repeat customers and also sells door to door in her community. She will use her loan to buy more jewelry. Her business goal is to add the sale of gold jewelry. Her personal goal is to have her children study to be professionals.

Maria Cecilia monthly net profit is 2,206 Guatemalan Quetzales ($286). She hopes to increase that in Q3 to 386 ($440) by the end of this cycle.
