Charles's story

Charles is a man aged 37, married with 4 children. As he was growing up in his remote village, his childhood life was mostly attending to family livestock, just like any other village boy of his age. The responsibility of heading family livestock did not give Charles an opportunity to further his secondary education. His parents made him drop-out of school when he had just reached the highest class at primary level and he got married to his wife Twisibire. This is when he was just 17 years Old. Charles is a hardworking and intelligent man despite that he did not further his education. Through farming, he was able to establish a small business of selling rice. His small business has helped him to send his children to primary school. however he envisages challenges if his children were to join secondary school in the near future. Charles has the desire to provide an education to his children despite that he himself did not have. This is the reason Charles joined FIFAD program to acquire an irrigation pump to grow his business of rice farming. His area is a drought-prone district and does not have adequate rains for crops. Apart from using his pump for supplementary irrigation during dry spells, Charles will also grow his crop during the dry seasons hence increasing production and income through sales.
