Merardo's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a freezer and fish inventory for a new fish distribution venture, supporting native indigenous fishermen.

Merardo's story

Meet Merardo,

Merardo is a young indigenous farmer that works in a hardware store and also works in agriculture farming plantain.

He has identified an opportunity to buy fish and seafood from his neighbours in the indigenous reservation of Puerto Lara, East Panama, to sell in other urban areas of the country. With this endeavour, he supports fishermen in his community and also generates revenue to support his family.

For this new venture, he has saved some money and bought a small pick up truck, which he will use to distribute the fish. Today, he is asking for his first Kiva loan to buy a small freezer and some fish inventory to get his small business started and start selling fish.

Indigenous people in Panama have been historically excluded from basic financial services. Thanks for supporting Merardo and the indigenous fishermen from Puerto Lara.
