A loan helped to buy farming inputs to improve her production during this tough economic recession.

Tella's story

Tella is a 47-year-old mother of two school-going children. She lives in Nandihills, a town that was significantly struck by the 2007–2008 violent Kenyan crisis. Tella has been supporting her family through mixed dairy and crop farming for the past many years.

The major impediment to the development of smallholder farms in Kenya is lack of short-term credit facilities. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is working hard to support smallholder farmers in Kenya through financing, thereby guaranteeing their survival. Tella is borrowing this loan to buy farming inputs to improve her production during this tough economic recession. A loan to her will be vital to achieve food security in her home during this period of global economic recession.
