Djigui 1 Group's story

The seven members of the Djigui 1 Group are married women who are, on average, 34 years old with 4 children. They live in polygamous households in Gnabourouthila, one of the villages in the Dioïla prefecture in Koulikoro, the 2nd administrative region of Mali. They work with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso (one of Kiva's field partners) with the goal of better organizing their businesses at the beginning of the rainy season. The crops they cultivate are peanuts and pearl millet. They are on their third rural loan, and all their previous loans were repaid properly. With this new loan, Nagnouma D. (one of the women in the group) intends to buy farming inputs before prices go up, to purchase small equipment, and to pay labour costs to maintain about 1 hectare of peanut crops. The products will be sold in the city of Dioïla after the harvest to a clientele composed of men and women. They intend to realize an average profit of 45,000 FCFA at the end of the term.
