Las Mercedes Group's story

Catalina is a 36-year-old single mother with one child. She makes and sells tortillas, a business she learned from her mother. Today, with love and dedication, she strives to support her daughter and her mother. Catalina rises at dawn to get the tortillas ready because she also works in a cigar factory where she receives a salary based on her weekly output.

Catalina’s goal is to enable her daughter to train to become a professional so that she can then succeed on her own. Thanks to her previous Kiva loan, Catalina has managed to maintain her business with a good client base that is growing little by little; therefore, her production of tortillas and coffee needs to increase.

Catalina is applying again for a loan from Fundenuse through Kiva to purchase vegetables in bulk to diversify her income. Her goal is start a small grocery store.

Catalina is a member of the “Las Mercedes” solidarity group, together with Darling who sells grains and vegetables, and Mario who sells vegetables.
